Terms of Service and Privacy Policy

Chapter 1. General Rules

Article 1. Purpose

The purpose of these Terms of Service is to define the terms of use, procedures, and other necessary matters, as well as the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of the Association of Korean Woman Scientists and Engineers (hereinafter, the “KWSE”) and users when using the services provided by the WWST (www.wwst.or.kr).

Article 2. Applicable Laws and Regulations Other than These Terms of Service

Matters that are not specified in these Terms of Service shall be prescribed by the Framework Act on Telecommunications, the Telecommunications Business Act, the Review Regulations of the Information and Communications Ethics Committee, the Code of Ethics for Information and Communications, the Computer and other relevant laws and regulations. Notices, pertaining to specific matters related to individual services, shall also apply.

Chapter 2. Provision and Use of Services

Article 3. Establishment of Contract of Use

A Contract of Use shall be established between the KWSE and the user as soon as the user agrees to the Terms of Service for the use of the WWST and the KWSE consents to such use through the provision of relevant services (granting of permission to the user for membership).

Article 4. Use of Services
  • 1. The WWST shall be available for use 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, unless there is a business or technical issue that hinders the provision of services by the KWSE or if there are other extenuating circumstances. However, if the KWSE needs to inspect WWST system facilities, or if there are other force majeure events, such as equipment failure or network congestion, exceptions may be made for the full or partial restriction or suspension of services.
  • 2. The time of use stipulated in Paragraph 1 shall not be enforced on the day or time specified by the KWSE for periodic system inspection, etc.
  • 3. After the user has completed registration, the WWST shall provide services, including the searching and viewing of member information and message board services.
Article 5. Consent to the Utilization of User Information
  • 1. The WWST’s Privacy Policy shall be applied to the utilization of users’ personal information.
  • 2. The personal information of users of the WWST shall be collected, used, managed, protected, and stored as follows:
  • 1) Collection of personal information: The WWST collects information about the user that is provided by the user at the time of membership registration.
  • 2) Use of personal information: The KWSE does not disclose or distribute the personal information of users, collected in connection with the provision of services through the WWST, to third parties without the user’s consent. However, such information may be provided in the following cases: when requested by a government agency in accordance with relevant laws, such as the Framework Act on Telecommunications; when requested for the investigation of a crime; when requested by the Korea Communications Standards Commission; when requested by other agencies in accordance with the procedures stipulated in other relevant laws; or when used for the purposes of producing statistics or promotional materials, or conducting academic research or market research, in which individuals are not identified.
  • 3) Management of personal information: Users may modify their own personal information as needed on My Page of the WWST to protect and manage their personal information. Each user is responsible for any inconvenience affecting his or her own service use and/or the service use of others resulting from the user’s failure to immediately update any changes to his or her personal information. Additional information sent by the KWSE that is deemed unnecessary by the user may also be changed/adjusted at the user's request.
  • 4) Protection of personal information: Users’ personal information is managed using an individual ID and password, and each user may view, edit, and/or delete his or her information on My Page of the WWST. However, when deemed necessary, the administrator of the website may view this information. Users should not share their ID and/or password with others and are strongly advised to log out of the WWST and close the web browser following the completion of service use. (These measures are necessary to protect user information, particularly when using a shared computer in a public place, such as an Internet cafe or a library.)
  • 5) Storage of personal information: Users’ personal information is maintained as long as the user continues to meet the qualifications for WWST membership. In the case of membership withdrawal, account cancellation, or disqualification, the personal information of the relevant user shall be deleted within one (1) month after the Contract of Use has been terminated.
  • 6) When a user registers for use of the WWST in accordance with these Terms of Service, it is deemed that the user has given his or her consent to the collection and use of personal information, provided by the user on the registration form, by the WWST.
Article 6. Protection of User Information
  • 1. Upon completing the registration process for the WWST, the user assumes full responsibility for maintaining the confidentiality of the information entered and is fully responsible for any consequences arising from the use of the user’s ID and/or password.
  • 2. The user is responsible for any personal information that he or she voluntarily provides through any message boards within the WWST, other linked sites, and/or emails.
  • 3. The user must fully terminate his or her connection to the WWST after completing each session of service use. The WWST is not responsible for any damages or losses incurred from the use of user information by a third party resulting from a failure on the part of the user to correctly terminate his or her connection to the WWST.
  • 4. If a user discovers that his or her ID and/or password have been illegally used in the WWST, the user must immediately report the issue to the KWSE. By failing to report such an issue to the KWSE, the user assumes full responsibility for the consequences of the illegal use of ID and/or password.
Article 7. Suspension of the Use of Services

The KWSE may suspend the provision of services to a user without prior notice if the user violates these Terms of Service.

Article 8. Rights to Posts Made on the WWST
  • 1. Each user reserves the rights to the contents he or she posts on the WWST.
  • 2. The WWST shall not be held liable for any expected profits or losses, or damages incurred by the user as the result of information obtained through the use of the WWST. The WWST shall not be held liable for the contents, in terms of credibility or accuracy of facts, information, and/or materials (etc.), posted by users.
  • 3. The WWST reserves the right to move posted content without prior notice, and may delete posted content without prior notice in the following cases:
  • 1) In the case of contents that violate these Terms of Service or are deemed to be commercial, illegal, obscene, and/or vulgar;
  • 2) In the case of contents that malign, slander, or otherwise defame other users or third parties;
  • 3) In the case of contents that violate public order and/or morals;
  • 4) In the case of contents that are recognized as being connected to a criminal act;
  • 5) In the case of contents that violate the copyright or other rights of a third party; or
  • 6) In the cases of contents that violate other related laws.
  • 4. In the event that a user’s post infringes on the copyright or others, the relevant user fully assumes all civil and/or criminal liability arising from such an act.
Article 9. Ownership of the WWST
  • 1. The intellectual property rights and other rights related to the WWST and its services, including the software, images, marks, logos, designs, service names, information, and trademarks thereof, are the property of the KWSE.
  • 2. The intellectual property rights of all contents posted by the WWST, such as articles, papers, photos, drawings, videos, and films, belong to the KWSE.
  • 3. Users shall not nor allow a third party, in part or in whole, to modify, borrow, lend, sell, distribute, produce, transfer, extend the copyright terms for, establish a security right for, and/or use for commercial purposes the property owned by the WWST, as stipulated in Paragraph 17 and Paragraph 18, without the expressed consent of the WWST.
Article 10. Copyright for Posts Submitted to the KWSE
  • 1. Each user reserves the rights to the contents he or she posts.
  • 2. In the event that the contents of a post are no longer relevant and therefore are no longer valid because a significant amount of time has elapsed since the post was first created, the post may be deleted after one (1) week after notice is given.
  • 3. The KWSE shall not be held responsible for the accuracy and/or reliability of the information posted, published, emailed or otherwise transmitted by users through the WWST, and each user shall be fully responsible for any and all civil and/or criminal liability arising from his/her posts.
Article 11. User Code of Conduct and Restrictions of Service Use
  • 1. In the event that the contents of information provided by a user are found to be or reasonably suspected of being false, the WWST may suspend, in part or in whole, the provision of services to the relevant user, and the WWST and its operators shall not be held responsible for any disadvantages arising from the suspension thereof.
  • 2. The KWSE does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, and/or quality of the contents on the WWST other than those provided directly by the WWST, such as contents provided by users and/or other related organizations. Therefore, the WWST shall not be held responsible for any loss or damage incurred by the use of such contents.
  • 3. The KWSE shall not be held responsible for any type of information posted, transmitted, or obtained by users or other related organizations through the WWST, or any other kind of information that is posted, transmitted, and/or obtained by users or other related organizations by means such as email, that is not information directly provided by the WWST.
  • 4. The KWSE prohibits users from performing any of the following acts through the WWST, and, in the event that an act performed by a user is deemed a violation of these Terms of Service, all of the relevant user’s usage information retained on the WWST may be deleted without the consent of the user:
  • 1) Acts of stealing the ID and/or password of another user;
  • 2) Acts of transmitting, posting, publishing, emailing, and/or otherwise transmitting content that is vulgar, obscene, offensive, intimidating, and/or may infringe on the privacy of others;
  • 3) cts of disguising the source of contents transmitted through the WWST;
  • 4) Acts of posting, publishing, emailing, and/or transmitting contents that cannot be used, as stipulated by relevant laws and/or contracts;
  • 5) Acts of posting, publishing, emailing, or transmitting contents that infringe on the patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, and/or other intellectual property rights of another person;
  • 6) Acts of posting, engaging in posting, publishing, emailing, or sending other types of solicitations, such as advertisements, promotional materials, junk mail, spam, chain letters, and pyramid schemes, etc., without the approval of the KWSE; or
  • 7) Acts of collecting or storing the personal information of other users.

Chapter 3. Obligations and Responsibilities

Article 12. Obligations of the KWSE
  • 1. The KWSE shall not perform any act that is prohibited by applicable laws, regulations, and/or these Terms of Service, and is obligated to make reasonable efforts to provide continuous and stable services. However, in the event of unavoidable circumstances, such as natural disasters and/or other emergencies, services may be temporarily suspended.
  • 2. The KWSE is obligated to make reasonable efforts to ensure the convenience of service use and is responsible for any necessary signing, modification, and/or termination of the Contract of Use.
  • 3. The KWSE shall not be held responsible for any disruption in service provision due to reasons attributable to the user. However, in the event that an opinion and/or complaint raised by the user is deemed justifiable, the matter shall be handled according to appropriate procedures; in the event that complaints require time to resolve, the user must be notified of the reason and the scheduled processes of the handling of complaints.
  • 4. The KWSE shall implement a security system to protect users’ personal information (including their credit information) for the safe use of the WWST.
  • 5. The WWST shall not disclose or distribute users’ personal information to other parties without user consent. However, under the conditions prescribed in Article 5 Paragraph 2-2, users’ personal information may be provided to a third party without user consent.
Article 13. Obligations of the User
  • 1. When registering for service use, the user shall provide complete information (hereinafter referred to as "registration information") that is consistent with current facts. In addition, the user has the responsibility to accurately enter, maintain, and update personal information. Each user is responsible for any inconvenience affecting his or her own service use and/or the service use of others resulting from the user’s failure to immediately update any changes to his or her personal information. Furthermore, the user shall not allow his or her ID and/or password to be used by a third party.
  • 2. Users shall not perform any commercial activities using the WWST without prior consent from the WWST.
  • 3. Users shall not copy, reproduce, change, translate, publish, broadcast, and/or provide to a third party any information obtained through the WWST, without the prior consent of the WWST.
  • 4. Users shall not engage in any of the following acts in relation to the use of the WWST:
  • 1) Misuse of another user’s ID;
  • 2) Acts performed for the purpose of, or related to, criminal activities;
  • 3) Acts that threaten public social order or violate morals;
  • 4) Acts that defame or offend others;
  • 5) Acts that infringe on the rights of other parties, such as intellectual property rights;
  • 6) Hacking or spreading of computer viruses;
  • 7) Acts of continuously transmitting certain contents, such as advertisements, against the will of others;
  • 8) Acts that disrupt or may interfere with the safe operation of services; and/or
  • 9) The modification of information posted through the WWST.
  • 5. After signing up for WWST, users may cancel their membership (termination of the Contract of Use) at any time for any reason, such as no longer wishing to receive the services provided by the WWST, and the KWSE shall immediately process the requested cancellation.

Chapter 4. Additional Matters

Article 14. Prohibition of Transfers

Users shall not transfer or donate their membership status or right to service use, granted through the Contract of Use, nor provide such status or rights as collateral.

Article 15. Compensation for Damages

The KWSE shall not be held liable for any damages incurred by users in relation to the services provided free of charge through the WWST, except in the following cases:

  • 1. Criminal acts intentionally committed by the KWSE;
  • 2. In the event that free services provided by the WWST are changed to paid services without the consent of the users; or
  • 3. In the event the KWSE intentionally violates Article 11 (Obligations of the KWSE) for the purpose of making wrongful gains.
Article 16. Exemption Provisions
  • 1. In the event that the WWST cannot provide services due to force majeure or equivalent circumstances, the responsibility of the WWST to provide services shall be waived.
  • 2. The WWST has no obligation to assure or represent any opinions or information expressed through its services, and does not approve, object to, or modify the opinions expressed by users or third parties. Furthermore, the WWST is not responsible for any profits and/or damage incurred by users by relying on information provided through its services.
  • 3. The WWST shall not be held liable for any goods or financial transactions between users, or between users and third parties, conducted through its services. Furthermore, the WWST shall not be held liable for the benefits expected or gained by users from using its services.
  • 4. The WWST shall not be held liable for any services provided free of charge through the WWST unless otherwise stipulated by applicable laws.
Article 17. Dispute Resolution

The laws of the Republic of Korea shall apply to any and all disputes regarding the use of the WWST System, and any lawsuit arising from such disputes shall fall under the jurisdiction of the competent court as stipulated by the Civil Procedure Act.

Addendum

(Enforcement date) These Terms of Service shall take effect on January 1, 2021.

Information about the Collection and Use of Personal Information

Before using the WWST, please enter the following information. Please read the following Terms and Conditions and indicate your agreement.

The KWSE collects the following required items of information from users who wish to register to use the WWST.

  • - Required Items: User ID, password, name in Korean, name in English, date of birth, mobile phone number, email address, name of company, department, position and year joined, company address, organization, academic major, school name, department, year of graduation, name of last school attended, academic degree, year of graduation from the last school attended

Purpose of the Collection and Use of Personal Information

  • The KWSE collects the following required items of personal information for user registration, user management, and the provision of various services.
  • - Collected Items: User ID, password, name in Korean, name in English, date of birth, mobile phone number, email address, company name, department, position and year joined, company address, organization, academic major, school name, year of graduation, name of the last school attended, academic degree, year of graduation from the last school attended, access log, access IP information
  • - Personal information collection method: Online user registration
  • The KWSE uses collected personal information for the following purposes:
  • - Registration and management: User identification for the use of the WWST, confirmation of the user’s intent to sign up for system services, maintenance and management of user qualifications, management of membership fees, statistical analysis of users, prevention of fraudulent use of services, delivery of notices, and securing of a seamless communication channel
  • - Provision of services: Human resource information searches, provision of statistical information, information on international events (delivery of invitations, etc.), information on international exchanges, joint international surveys, notices on the use of the website and its contents, etc.
  • - Handling of complaints: Viewing of personal information, editing, or deleting of personal information, requests to stop the processing of personal information, incidents involving personal information leaks, etc.

Before using the WWST, please read the following information on the retention period and use of personal information, and indicate your agreement to the Terms and Conditions.

The KWSE continues to retain and utilize the personal information of users who are actively using related services, etc. Users may directly request the cancellation of their membership and/or the deletion of their personal information. Once such a request is made, the personal information of the relevant user will be processed so that it cannot be viewed or used in the future.

WWST Platform Privacy Policy

All personal information handled by the system of the “World Woman in Science and Technology”(hereinafter “WWTS”) is collected, stored, and processed in accordance with all relevant laws. The WWST and its operators make every effort to protect the rights and interests of users and properly perform tasks through the WWST system. This Privacy Policy serves to inform WWST users of the purpose and method of use of user personal information, as well as of the measures taken by the WWST to protect users’ personal information.

This privacy policy shall enter into effect on March 2, 2021.

Purpose of Collection and Use of Personal Information

The WWST processes personal information for the following purposes. Personal information is not processed or used for any purpose other than those stated below. In the event that any changes are made to the stated purposes of use, the WWST will take all necessary measures, such as obtaining separate user consent, in accordance with Article 18 of the Personal Information Protection Act.

  • 1. Registration and Management of the WWST Database
  • - When a user registers with the WWST database, the user’s personal information is processed for the purposes of: user identification; confirmation of registration intent; analysis of database statistics; prevention of illegal use of services; delivery of notices; and securing of a seamless communication channel.
  • 2. Provision of Services
  • - Users’ personal information is also processed for the provision of services, such as for: personnel searches; statistics; information on international events (delivery of invitations, etc.); information on international exchanges; joint international surveys; notices on website use; and information about website content.

Personal Information Items and Collection Methods

The WWST collects the following items of personal information during the initial sign-up process for website membership registration, as well as for the provision and management of various services:

  • 1. Scope of Personal Information Registered in the WWST Database
  • - Basic information (required): Profile, Research Collaboration
  • - Other information (optional): Education Information, Work Information, Experiences, Photo, etc.
  • 2. Scope of Personal Information Collected During Registration
  • - User ID, Name, Affiliation, Phone Number, Email, Work IP Address
  • 3. Personal Information Automatically Collected and Stored
  • - Visitor IP, time of visit, etc.

Personal Information Processing and Retention Period

When a user utilizes the services provided by the WWST, the WWST continuously retains the user’s personal information and utilizes it for the provision of services, etc. When a user directly asks for membership withdrawal or the deletion of his or her personal information, the user’s information is then additionally processed so that it cannot be viewed or used in the future.

Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties

The personal information registered in the WWST database is processed only within the specified scope, purpose of collection, and retention period and is not used for purposes other than those stated and is not provided to third parties without the prior consent of the user (hereinafter referred to as “use for purposes other those stated, etc.”). However, personal information may be provided to a third party in cases specified under Article 17 (Provision of Personal Information) and Article 18 (Limitations to Out-of-Purpose Use and Provision of Personal Information) of the Personal Information Protection Act, such as cases in which the user has given their consent, or the provision of personal information is stipulated by special laws and provisions.

Viewing and Correction of Personal Information

Users may view or correct the information collected and stored during registration/modification processes completed by the WWST at any time, and may request the deletion of personal information. Any user who would like to view or correct their personal information may click on the “Register/Edit” button to directly view or correct the information, or may contact the Personal Information Manager by email. Changes to user information shall be applied immediately following the completion of the changing procedures.

Personal Information Procedure and Method of Destruction

In principle, the WWST destroys personal information immediately after the processing of the personal information for its stated purposes has been completed. However, the information cannot be immediately deleted if its preservation is required by other relevant laws. The procedures, deadlines, and method of destruction for personal information collected and stored through the WWSTare as follows:

  • 1. Destruction Procedure

The information entered by the user shall be destroyed in accordance with relevant laws and internal policies after the retention period has elapsed or the purposes of the information processed have been accomplished.

  • 2. Destruction Period

Personal information shall be destroyed within five (5) days of the end of the retention period, or within five (5) days of the date on which the personal information is deemed no longer necessary for processing for reasons such as: the personal information has already served its processing purposes; the related services have been discontinued; or the related business has been shut down, etc.

  • 3. Method of Destruction

The WWST destroys personal information using the following methods:

  • Ⅰ. Electronic files: permanently deleted in a way that cannot be restored
  • Ⅱ. Records, prints, documents, or other media: shredded or incinerated

Personal Information Manager

The WWST appoints a Personal Information Manager as follows in order to protect users’ personal information and to handle related matters.

Users may report any and all personal information protection-related complaints related to the use of the WWST and its services to the Personal Information Manager. The manager will use the WWST to provide sufficient answers to user reports in a timely manner.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy shall be applied from the date of enforcement, and any changes including additions, deletions, and/or corrections to this Privacy Policy, made in accordance with all relevant laws and policies, shall be made known to users through a notice posted on the WWST website (www.wwst.or.kr) at least seven (7) days prior to the enactment of the changes.

Limited Responsibility for the Protection of Personal Information

The WWST and its operators are not responsible for any infringement or leakage of personal information to a third party in any manner other than those listed in this Privacy Policy.
